Day One
The first twelve miles are completed, but they seem small compared to the 200 I plan to walk! That reality makes me reflect on how life is simply taking one step at a time. Our eyes can look toward the big picture, but our focus must be on the next step. Otherwise, we are not present in the now when now is all we truly have.
The many times I heard “Buen Camino” today made me smile. It’s customary to say it when you pass someone on the road. I smiled because all of us cheering each other on was so lovely. May that become how we all live- wishing each other a good journey in life, without judgment or opinion as to how another should be doing it.
It was very warm today. The sun was bright and there was little sustained shade on el Camino. The landscape changed drastically and quickly over those 12 miles. From towns to rolling hills to countryside to glades of trees- the beauty was delightful. The blues of the sky and the greens of the grasses are unlike any I’ve ever seen. Just when I thought I couldn’t go on, I would see another beautiful landscape and I felt the motivation to continue. Like in all of life, it’s the moments of beauty that sustain us, fill us and strengthen us to keep going. Beauty infuses life with meaning.
Trusting for more beauty tomorrow…
